📺 VCF Media interviews Toni Lato: "We have to come out fighting from the start against Getafe"
The fullback is ready to build on his first LaLiga goal for VCF when the next fixture comes around
Whilst Valencia CF were unable to get a victory against Elche CF last Friday night, Toni Lato was one of the standout players in the fixture. The fullback returned to the stadium where he had first featured in the position, and ended up scoring his first LaLiga goal for the club in a losing effort for Javi Gracia's side.
Lato was the man who ran the most in the game, with 12.5km covered, and is aiming to put in the same effort against Getafe in the club's next fixture.
"It was a bittersweet day, because in the end the goal is the least important thing. It wasn't enough to help the team to get something positive from the game. It's a pity, because I think that in the second half we deserved a little more. The difference between the second and first half was evident. We'll continue working and turn our attention to Getafe now. We have to come out all-guns-blazing from the start against them," he told VCF Media on Sunday. The team returned to training on Saturday to try to rectify any issues with their play immediately.
"We have a young squad, and we have to all stick together. We have to come out fighting in every game, right from the start. That wasn't the case, and we have to be self-critical. We have to try to improve, from training through to our daily work. Everybody needs to demand the most from themselves to help the team to be at full strength and ready to compete when it's game day."
Lato acknowledged that the recent run of form could have an effect on players, but believes that hard work is the way to get through this.
"We are in a situation that we don't like, with three consecutive defeats. However, if we want to start things off with a victory, then we need to do things well, be focused and have confidence that we can do it. We have a very good squad, with young, hungry players. We have to show that and try to take three points that will give us a lot of confidence for the rest of the season."
Turning his attention to next weekend's fixture, he commented that "Games against Getafe are difficult to play. They are games against a compact, solid, gritty team who lose few duels. They are clever, and it's a very competitive game, in which we have to match their intensity so that we can have a chance in the game. We have to be a solid team and go for the win from the opening minute, so that we have a chance."
